Hello and welcome to Writing the Soul! I’m Nechamie, a writer, interviewer, mother, wife and incurable introvert living in an increasingly gentrified Brooklyn. Welcome to the place where I share stories of the ordinary, yet oh so extraordinary clients I meet in my work as a personal historian. What’s that you ask? It’s the business of saving stories. Your stories. Your grandparents. Your parents. Stories of the people you love and cherish and want preserve for generations to come.
How can I help?
Well for one, you can check out my website here. That will give the technical who, what, where, how, and why of the process. Email me with any and all questions and I’ll be glad to give my assistance.
What will find on this blog?
Reviews of my favorite books, tips to help you get started in preserving your own family history, and a journey of the process with some of my clients. I might throw in a few posts on current events or my own adventures just for fun.
What do I do?
Three kids, one husband, two parents, seven siblings, twenty-six nieces and nephews, one business, seven books, five novelettes, and fifty articles published. My life in numbers. At least the relationship and writing part of it–the two forces that shape my life and vie for my attention.
Balance? It’s a myth. Or at least that’s what I tell myself when deadlines loom, the house is a mess, my kids are flooding me with words and words are flooding my brain.
Somehow or other it all comes together.
That’s what I love about the stories I hear. They take me out of my sometimes narrow viewpoint and open me up to situations I can’t even imagine. Usually of the sort that make me close my eyes and thank my lucky stars for the life I lead.
Want to work with me?
You’ll find me organized to a fault, easy to talk to, relentlessly pursuing the perfect story, the perfect design and the perfect format to bring your story to life.
The laundry will wait:-)
